The Surprise Spring

I saw this little creek while painting plein air. There were little birds splashing around and the rocks really drew me. I set up to paint and saw what I hadn't before, this little trickle of a spring into the creek. Of course for the painting, I gave it more prominence. Painting plein air really gives a chance to really see the beauty of your surroundings.

The title says it all. It was a beautiful early fall day. The grasses were gorgeous. I would have loved to paint this scene from life but it was a busy road and no place to safely set up.

Waiting for the Tide

I saw this boat while I was painting plein air at Ft. Stark. Boats are hard to paint from life because they move so much. This one was a beauty and serenely waiting for the tide. So I photographed and promised myself to paint it in the studio.
